MCX603™ (Release 2) heatsink for Intel® Xeon™ processors

Made in the USA
Patented

DISCONTINUED

New Release 2 feature:
The MCX603 installs with Intel®'s validated retention mechanism (OEM processors sold without heatsink), and does not necessitate removal of the motherboard (see picture below).

Users are advised that Intel® retail processors either necessitate the use of Swiftech's proprietary retention system described further below, or need to procure Intel's OEM retention system separately. Such systems are generally provided by the motherboard manufacturers.

Features :

  • Hybrid copper base, thin aluminum pin heatsink: the massive 1/2" thick copper base provides superior heat capacity for unparalleled stability. The thin aluminum pins promote increased turbulence for more efficient heat dissipation compared to traditional fin extrusions.

  • Patented Helicoid pin design (U.S. patent 6,469,898): pins are individually machined in an helicoid shape, to increase their surface area, and further enhance heat dissipation efficiency.

  • 70, 80 fan compatibility: removable fan brackets allow installation of either 70 or 80mm fans, for the widest possible range of applications. The MCX603 is also compatible with 92mm fans with optional fan brackets. Installation of 92mm fans may not be possible in dual processor configurations where the processors are laid out side by side.

  • Quick and easy fan installation: the fan installs "in a snap" with convenient snap-in rivets.
  • Screws and nuts are also provided to install fans that cannot be used with snap-in rivets.

  • Exceptional quality and attention to details: the heatsink base is lapped to 0.0003" (3/10 of 1/1000") to promote optimal thermal conductivity.

Motherboard and CPU compatibility

  • The MCX603™ is exclusively designed for Intel® Xeon™ (socket 603 & 604) processors, in single or multiple processor configurations.

  • There are no known motherboard incompatibilities at the time of publication (07-03-2003)

Retention Mechanisms

  • The MCX603™ installs with Intel®'s OEM's validated retention mechanism (processors sold without heatsink), consisting of two spring clips and plastic retention frames which are supplied with the motherboard. This solution does not necessitate removal of the motherboard to install the heatsink.

  • An alternate retention mechanism is optionnaly available for users who do not wish, or cannot use Intel®'s validated solution. The heatsink anchors to four steel standoffs bolted to the motherboard with lock-nuts. Installation of the standoffs requires removal of the motherboard from the computer case.

Performance data

Suggested fans

Due to the wide variations in user preferences, needs and applications, the MCX603™ is sold without fan. The following are general guidelines for fan selection:

  • Suggested fan airflow rating for normal use (non-overclocked processor), and operating conditions: 30 to 45CFM.
  • Suggested fan airflow rating for extreme operating conditions, such as overclocked processors or unusually high ambient temperatures: 45CFM and above
