Features :

The MCX4000-T is a fully assembled air-cooled thermoelectric (Peltier) solution designed to manage thermal loads of up to 100 Watts. The product is intended for applications where liquid cooling is not an option.

Features highlights:

  • 226 Watts Thermoelectric module

  • Optimal cooling capacity: will dissipate 70 Watts continuous thermal load to ambient temperature with 80CFM fan.

  • Hybrid copper base, thin aluminum pin heatsink: thanks to it's massive 3/8" thick copper base, the MCX4000-T™ is the first commercial air-cooled heatsink on the market capable of absorbing, and dissipating the combined thermal load produced by a thermoelectric module of this class, and the latest generations of Intel® micro-processor.

  • Patented Helicoid pin design (U.S. patent 6,469,898) : pins are individually machined in an helicoid shape, to increase their surface area, and further enhance heat dissipation efficiency.

  • Recommended fan: 80 or 92mm mm fan with a minimum 68 CFM rating. Performance of the device is tightly dependant on the heat dissipation provided by the fan. Careful consideration should be given to the choice of fan, depending on the thermal load, and operating conditions. 80 CFM is recommended to meet the optimum specifications as described here

  • Exceptional quality and attention to details: the heatsink base is lapped to 0.0003" (3/10 of 1/1000"), and polished to near-mirror finish to promote optimum thermal conductivity.

  • The 1/2" thick cold plate is also fully insulated to eliminate condensation.

Motherboard and CPU compatibility

  • The MCX4000-T™ is designed exclusively for Intel® Pentium® 4 (socket 478) processors. Please review heatsink size specifications noted below to ensure compatibility with your motherboard.

Retention Mechanism

  • The MCX4000-T retention mechanism requires removal of Intel®'s heatsink retention frame, and necessitates removal of the motherboard from the computer case. The retention mechanism is designed to prevent damage to the processor during installation or removal of the heatsink, or during shipping of a completely assembled computers. Each retention assembly (4 assemblies total) is composed of stainless steel standoff, secured to the motherboard by a locknut, a #6-32 Philips screw, and a spring.

Power Supply requirements

  • Connection to an auxiliary power supply (recommended):
    • The TEC module is provided with "bare wires" to facilitate installation with screw type terminals.
    • We recommend the "Meanwell S320-12" power supply, rated for 25A at 12 Volts, and available here.

    • Minimum requirements for a dedicated power supply: 20A at +12 volts.
    • If adjustable voltage is available: setting the voltage higher than +12V is not recommended. Lower voltage, can be safely used, down to 9 volts.
  • Connection to an ATX computer power supply:
    • Important Warning: to connect the MCX4000-T cooler to your existing computer power supply, you must carefully consider the existing requirements of other devices connected on the +12 volts line. Connecting the cooler to an underpowered unit will definitely damage the power supply.
    • Absolute minimum requirements for an ATX computer power supply (*): 28A at +12 volts, such as but not limited to the following products, provided as examples only, based on the respective manufacturer published specifications (**):

(*) Based on an average computer setup, consisting of single CPU, up to (2) CDRom devices, up to (2) Hard Drives, (1) floppy, and standard AGP and PCI devices (graphics, sound, modem or network).
