MC371 Active cooler Recommended with Socket 370 Motherboards (Intel® PIII and Celeron® FC-PGA) (not recommended for socket A) The MC371 Active cooler follows in the footsteps of the recently introduced MC1001slot 1 cooler, and benefits from our latest findings in the tests conducted with Arctic Silver thermal compound . The MC371 retains the same "long pin" heat sink body and Papst NHH 33cfm fan as the MC370, and uses a 1/4" thick copper spacer block instead of the .030" copper shim. We also use Arctic Silver thermal compound for TEC to Heat sink, and Copper Block to TEC assemblies. The net result is a whopping 10°C colder temperature , average improvement measured under full CPU load. This should conservatively result in a minimum 3% CPU performance increase (Intel®). Brief comparative performance study, at a 22C ambient temperature, using Asus CUSL2 motherboard, and Arctic Silver thermal compound for the CPU assembly:
Because of the significantly colder temperature, condensation prevention requirements are much more stringent than in the MC370 model. Please refer to our guide to complete condensation elimination for further instructions. Size issue with Slot One motherboards and slocket adapters The MC371 is 1/4" taller than the MC370. To find out how this will affect your installation, please measure the distance between the CPU slot and the closest DIMM slot, and compare it to the dimensions listed below. To avoid covering DIMM slots, you might have use the either the S370-90 or S370-135 shroud.
All other specifications, and Installation of the cooler are otherwise identical to the MC370 models. Return to the MC370 PAGE Important information re. Arctic Silver Compound: unfortunately, the manufacturer does not currently make a blister pack for this product (a small 1g packaging). As a result, we are unable to supply the product as part of the kit. Our tests have shown a 2°C colder temperature between good quality thermal grease and Arctic Silver and we recommend using this product if you want to reach optimum performance. Arctic Silver is currently available in 6g syringes, either at www.thecoolingstore.com or in the accessories section of our shopping cart. Alternatively, we can also provide a free blister pack of AOS termal compound with each cooler. Nov 1, 2000
Introducing our new compression spring mounting system. Unequal length springs are now used to provide appropriate compression at the exact center of the CPU. Spring strength has been precisely calculated to meet optimum thermal interface and is in full compliance with Intel® and AMD mechanical specifications. Installation no longer requires removal of the motherboard from the case, and is simply performed by releasing the two retainer screws, making it effectively the easiest heat sink installation on the market. There are no adjustments required nor necessary.
Effective Nov 1, 2000, all our thermoelectric modules are now potted. Other specs remain unchanged. This measure was taken to prevent any possible contamination by the Arctic Silver compound inside the thermocouples.
