Introduction
The H20-80 "Micro" is a high-performance
low noise liquid cooling kit designed for space-constrained
applications. This edition gains a quantum leap in
performance (9.6 °C at 100 Watts) compared to the
earlier Rev3. model thanks
to the inclusion of our new flagship water-block, the
APOGEE and the new MCR80-QP
cross-flow radiator.
Thanks to this additional performance
headroom, the "Micro" can be operated at nearly-silent
levels (20 dbA), or accommodate the most recent dual-core
processors and a liquid cooled high-end graphics
card at a quiet noise level of 28 dbA.
The kit concept favors low maintenance,
and most importantly the ability to fit each of its small
individual components in any space available: the radiator
mounts to an 80mmm fan opening inside or outside of
the PC, the pump is no larger
than a pack of cigarettes, and the reservoir
has also been specially designed for small form factor
applications.

PERFORMANCE
Features |
QUIET COMPUTING
Features
|
|
Capturing the
heat
|
- The extreme performance APOGEE
Universal water-block is responsible for absorbing
the heat generated by today's hottest CPU's with
incredible efficiency.
|
- The kit is delivered with 12V
to 7V fan adapters, enabling users to reduce the
fan speed -and noise, to whisper quiet operations
(~20 dBA).
|
|
Moving the Heat
around
|
- The Extreme performance MCP350
12 Volts DC industrial pump pushes the coolant
throughout the circuit at high velocity, thanks
to its unmatched head pressure capability.
- 3/8" (ID) tubing offers
low restriction with reasonable outside bulk (1/2" OD)
|
- Quiet pump operations: 24 to
26 dbA thanks to the brushless motor
- Pump is mounted on a neoprene
foam gasket to reduce vibrations and noise
- Micro
Reservoir operates without any sloshing noises,
even at 1/2 level
|
|
Dissipating
the heat into the atmosphere
|
- Good balance for performance
versus noise is achieved with the excellent MCR80-QP
80mm cross-flow radiator featuring an 80x25mm
fan optimized for low noise (28dBA) and high back
pressure.
- Adding a second MCR80-QP radiator
equals the performance found in single 120mm radiator
systems, such as the
H20-Premium liquid cooling kit for example.
|
- Optimized for 80mm fans with
low to medium output
- Fin density optimized to reduce
air noise
|
|
Convenience
and reliability features
|
- High-reliability,
no-maintenance MCP350
industrial pump is rated at 50,000 hour MTBF(Mean
Time Between Failure) equivalent to 5 year lifetime.
- MCRES-Micro
reservoir provides approximately 18 months of
continuous operations without refills.
- MCRES-Micro
reservoir fits in any small space available in
the system without sacrificing a CD-drive bay
- Universal APOGEE
water-block is compatible with all current desktop
processors, and ships with all the different mounting
systems.
- SmartCoils
are included with the kit, to completely eliminate
tube kinking for a safe and reliable installation.

Performance
data
Water-cooling Kit performance testing
was conducted in an environmental chamber where the
radiator fan inlet air temperature was held at 25°C
±0.1. An industry standard heat die was used
as a heat source.

* Testing performed with the fan(s)
shipped with the kit
** actual Watts measured at the heater of die simulator
*** Noting that "C/W"s are specific to an
individual test bench (due to the lack of standard test
methods); the system C/Ws described are those actually
determined with a specific water-cooling kit under the
conditions described above.
**** Fan noise rating based on manufacturer data. Estimate
based on: "If the speed of a fan is reduced by
20%, the decibel level will reduce by 5 dB.", and
"addition of a second equal source increases the
sound level by ~3dBA".
FAQ: What CPU temperature can
I expect in my own system ?
In order to project what your CPU temperature
will be, you need to know the following:
- Power rating in Watts of your CPU.
- Ambient Temperature inside the computer.
For example, if your CPU is rated by
the manufacturer at 100 Watts, and the temperature measured
inside your computer (close to the fans inlet), is 25°C:
Multiply 100 Watts
by our C/W rating of 0.182 (at 12 Volt) = 18.2°C
Add the temperature
inside the computer of 25°C = a CPU temperature
of 43.4°C at full load.
FAQ: Can I operate the fan at
5 volts for even lower noise ?
Yes, but at your own risks. The Delta
AFB0812M is not rated for 5v operations by the manufacturer.

Processor
and Motherboard compatibility
The H20-80 Micro kit is is essentially
meant as a universal product. It ships with all the necessary
hardware for the following processor (classified by the
type of sockets that they use):
- Socket 478 (Intel® Pentium® 4),
- Socket 775 (Pentium® 4 "Prescott",
Pentium® D),
- Socket 603/604 (Intel® Xeon - 400 and 533 FSB)
- Socket 604 Intel® Xeon "Nocona" 800 Mhz FSB - see note 1 below
- Socket 462 (AMD® Athlon®, Duron®,
MP, XP) - see note 2 below
- Socket 754, 939, 940 (AMD® 64 bit
processors).
Note 1: Dual processor users: Since
the Micro kit is provided with one water-block only, you
will need to procure another Apogee water-block for your
second processor. The "Nocona" hardware is not
included with the Apogee water-block when sold separately,
and it should also be procured separately under part number:
AP-NC604 ($3.00) Note 2: AMD® socket 462 (socket
A). The Apogee can be used exclusively with motherboards
featuring the 4 mounting holes around the socket.
Removal of the motherboard is necessary
to install the mounting posts in all cases, except with
AMD® Athlon 64 and Opteron (socket 754,
939 and 940). |

A complete installation in Monarch's Small Form Factor "Hornet"

Notice how we fitted the radiator against
the front internal panel. This required some case modifications
(cutting an 80mm fan hole).

We use the H20-80 Micro in our own Dual Opteron
4-U rack mount workstation. Notice how we installed
two radiators externally, using our PCI Pass-thru kit
to route
the tubes back inside the chassis. Also notice how we
fitted the MCRES-Micro in a 3 1/2" HDD bay.
